transparency, accountability & vision
Taxes
Accountability of tax dollars to improve Calvert’s communities, businesses, and residents
In Buddy’s first term, taxes have remained flat with a slight decrease in real property tax.
Moving forward, Buddy will work to maintain the current tax base and keep taxes flat.
jobs
Creating desirable jobs and making Calvert a more business-friendly environment
During Buddy’s first term, the Patuxent Business Park is almost sold out and more than $1.8 million was disbursed to local businesses and nonprofits during the pandemic.
Looking ahead, Buddy will continue to focus on creating a business-friendly environment in Calvert County and to find a location for the county’s next business park.
growth
Balancing smart growth with needed infrastructure to support Calvert’s increasing demands
Buddy voted against the expansion of the Huntingtown and Prince Frederick Town Centers.
As the Town Center Master Plans are reviewed in the next several years, Buddy will continue to be a strong supporter of balanced growth.
public safety
Prioritizing public safety and first responders in our community
At the request of the county’s volunteer, Buddy supported paid Emergency Medical Services to help meet our citizen’s demands.
Buddy will continue to monitor the citizen’s needs and volunteer capabilities to deliver residents with critical emergency services.

Improving our education system to supports teachers, parents, and students
Buddy voted to support full funding of the Board of Education’s budget requests and he helped create a work group to administer the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
Looking ahead, Buddy will continue to support a vibrant education system in Calvert County. He will also work to ensure education spending is efficient and effective, and that Calvert meets its Blueprint funding requirement while balancing the local needs of our school system.
preservation
A commitment to land preservation and protection of natural resources
In his first term, Buddy worked to reestablish the county’s Purchase and Retirement Option (PAR) for transferable development rights. The county completed three rounds of the PAR in three years. And the county expanded the Rural Legacy Area, creating new opportunities for land preservation.
Looking ahead, Buddy will work to meet the county’s goal to preserve 40,000 acres. He will seek more tools for landowners to preserve land through the county’s TDR program by prioritizing critical properties for the foundation of agriculture. In addition, he will work to maximize opportunities through state land preservation programs like Rural Legacy and Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation.
